The Farfor Flats consist of four single storey semi-detached L-shaped houses designed by notable Australian architect Robin Boyd for Mrs Imogen Farfor.
All four were constructed in 1968, in brick and timber with flat deck roofing. Each has a private courtyard and an unusual verandah profile, where the roof is tilted upwards by a series of cantilevering timber props. Boyd had completed a scheme for the design of second storeys. However, this did not proceed at the time.
We were asked to design and document additions and alterations to units 1 and 2, including the addition of a second storey at the rear of the site. This required careful consideration to ensure consistency with Boyd’s original intent and respect for the architectural significance of the buildings.
