St. John’s Cathedral, designed in an early Victorian Gothic Revival style, is of Hong Kong heritage significance due to its placement within the core precinct of institutional buildings associated with nineteenth century colonial rule.
In 2007, we prepared a conservation study and management plan for the Cathedral complex which examined the architectural and historical significance of the site and surveyed the buildings to identify and prioritise preservation and restoration works. The Cathedral compound comprises the Cathedral building, Li Hall, the Fanny Li [New] Hall and Lodge Building, and sundry support structures within a landscape setting.
In addition, a feasibility study and assessment of the impact of air-conditioning and upgrading of electrical installations was also completed. The report was prepared in collaboration with International Conservation Services and Mott Connell.
